What are the types of Tuxedo Lapels?

The Notch – A triangular indentation is cut where the lapel joins the collar.

The Shawl – A smooth, round edge lapel shape.

The Peak – A broad V-shaped lapel that points up and out below the color line.

How many buttons should be buttoned?
If you’re wearing a one button style, you should button the one button. If you are wearing a two button style, leave the bottom button undone.

How should the shoulders fit?
This is one of the most important tailoring rules. The ideal width of a suit jacket extends the natural shoulder line to balance with the hips.

What should the sleeve length be?
The hem of your sleeves should fall at the wrist bone, allowing one-fourth inch to one half-inch of the shirt cuff to be visible.

What does a proper jacket fit look like?
The vent in the back of the jacket should not be open. If it does, the jacket is too tight.

How should your trousers fit?
The edge of your trousers should hit the top of your heal and brush the tops of your shoes. A small break in your trousers will allow for a timeless, yet modern look. Trousers are meant to sit at the waist. There should been enough room at the hip and thigh so you are comfortable when sitting or standing.

Do the wing tips of the shirt extend above or behind a bow tie?
The tips or flaps on a wing collar shirt should sit BEHIND your bow tie; not on top of it.
